The Art of Invention: Design and Visualization with STEAM Machines™ (cancelled due to COVID)

In this exciting hands-on day camp for grades 8 – 12, participants will be introduced to the engineering design process while they learn and use basic science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) concepts like simple machines, electric circuits, programming and computational thinking, music, and storytelling. Participants will design, build, and document their own chain reaction machines using a project-based approach that emphasizes problem identification, brainstorming, problem solving, rapid prototyping, teamwork, and communication. This is combined with photography of the machine in a full commercial studio, where participants will learn about image control via aperture/shutter/ISO choices, stroboscopic light control, high speed and thermal imaging. Final photos will be printed in our Print and Imaging Lab on the ASU Polytechnic campus. The camp will culminate with the exposition of a giant thematic chain-reaction machine and printed photographs that participants can take home! Camp registration is $250.
